Biography

Eva Contis is a filmmaker based in New Orleans, LA. Raised in Northern California, Eva traveled through Eastern Europe and South America, where she developed a deep commitment to humanity and social justice.

After getting a degree in Latin American Studies from the University of California at Santa Cruz, Eva taught first and second grade in South Los Angeles before taking classes at California State University Northridge Extension where she studied the craft of editing. It wasn’t long before she got her first job as an Assistant Editor. From there she went on to edit for film and television where she honed her craft of storytelling and served as a Post-production Supervisor.

She edited narrative features, true crime and documentaries before she dove into directing.

Accomplishments

  • Eva’s directorial debut, The Stand, won “Top 5” at the Louisiana Film Prize, as well as a Founder’s Circle Grant. It screened at numerous film festivals, was Oscar qualified and landed distribution with Shorts International. It was also featured in a four-page spread in American Cinematographer Magazine.

  • Eva edited the animated short, The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore, which took home an Oscar in 2012.

  • Eva’s second short, Breasts, was a part of the Panavision New Filmmaker Program and premiered at the New Orleans Film Festival before heading to the Austin Film Festival for its Texas premiere. It has screened worldwide, winning an award for best short drama at the Magnolia Film Festival, Best Story at the Great Message International Film Festival and two awards for Social Impact from Queen Palm International Film Festival and Hyperwave Film Festival plus a nomination for Best Director at the North Europe Fusion Festival.
