Antonio “TJ” Doctor is a Film Department Chair and Course Director for Advanced Production I in the Film Bachelor of Science degree program at Full Sail University. Originally, from Key West, FL, Antonio grew up in a Navy family and attended 10 different schools in 8 different cities before graduating high school. With every new school and every new set of friends, the constant icebreaker was movies. Movies were the one topic that bridged all social groups and offered a look at worlds bigger than his own. It became Antonio’s second language and would eventually be the center of his life’s passion. He is currently a Film Educator and Production Supervisor based in Orlando, Florida.
Antonio supported the Sundance Institute Feature Film Development Program as the Production Supervisor for their cornerstone workshop, the Directors Lab. He worked side by side with Academy Award-winning Directors, Cinematographers, Producers, and Actors to support the spirit of Independent Filmmaking. For over a decade, Antonio has helped develop emerging feature filmmakers by placing the best cinema technology into the hands of tomorrow’s filmmakers.
During his twenty-years in the Film and Video industry, Antonio led production crews as a First Assistant Director for shorts and independent feature films. He had the honor of collaborating with Academy Award Nominee Writer/Director Dee Rees and Academy Award Nominee Cinematographer Bradford Young, as Assistant Director on her award-winning first feature film Pariah (Winner of the John Cassavetes Award at the Independent Spirit Awards, as well as Best Cinematography at the Sundance Film Festival).
Antonio believes everyone is a lifetime learner and treasures the impact of independent films and authentic storytelling. His life pursuit of cinema technology and artist development has led him to work with industry icons and artists like Robert Redford, Sally Fields, Ed Harris, Harold Ramis, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Anthony Mackie, Angela Bassett, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Caleb Deschanel, Robert Elswit, Dylan Tichenor, Taika Waititi, Ellen Kuras, Joan Darling, Bill Hader, Catherine Hardwicke, Kasi Lemmons, Rae Dawn Chong, Chloe Zhao, Noah Schnapp, and John David Washington. He brings his wealth of knowledge garnished from decades of collaborations into the classroom and soundstage. His focus in education is to draw out the artist that exists within every film student.
